A Message From the Elementary Principal

Highland Park Hornets
Dear Friends:
Welcome to Highland Park Elementary School—A Happy Place to Learn!!!
We are so excited about the upcoming school year and wanted to share some of our excitement with you and your child! This coming year we are planning highly engaged and focused instruction with lots of opportunities for each child to be successful in our school. Some of the ways we plan to provide this is through a positive discipline focus called Love and Logic and B.E.S.T. (Be Successful, Exhibit Respect, Safety for All, and Take Responsibility). Students may earn Stinger Bucks that promotes good behavior and on Fridays, students may cash in their Bucks for prizes at our Highland Park Hornet Store.
Another way to provide engaged learning is our dedicated emphasis on higher order thinking skills by teaching kids to think and to problem solve—all critical skills for the 21st century. Our instructional focus and/or framework is a balanced literacy approach of learning through CScope, our online standards-based curriculum. Each day students will enjoy TEA Time at the end of the day for TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills), Enrichment, and Acceleration to better meet the individual needs of all of our children.
We are happy to introduce some new faces within our Elementary Hornet Family. Our new staff members are:
Dee-Anna Green – Counselor
Stacey Brown – 3rd Grade
Nicole Sawyer – Fourth Grade
Amy Wagner – Fourth Grade
You will want to come by and say hello to these fine teachers who are joining our team! In fact, we invite you to say hello to all of our teachers on August 19, 2010 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Meet the Teacher Night. This is a wonderful way for you and your child to meet the teacher and to drop off your child’s school supplies for the year before school actually starts.
Most importantly, we are committed to meeting the needs of each student, one child at a time at Highland Park Elementary School. We welcome you to come and visit us anytime as we work hard to provide engaged and focused instruction for your child!
Sincerely,
Traci Hopkins
Elementary Principal
