Hello, my name is Darla Ritch

November 10, 2006

Although I am new to Highland Park Elementary School, I am not new to the teaching profession.  I have 12 years teaching experience which includes: 5th grade Science, Pre-Kindergarten, Dyslexia Intervention, Gifted & Talented (grades K-5), and 4th grade.  I am looking forward to teaching third grade this year.

Our class motto:  Today is a GREAT day to learn something new!

I believe all children are capable of learning.  I also believe that they learn by doing.  I encourage all my students to take responsibility for and to be actively involved in their own learning.

I provide a safe, friendly atmosphere where my students are encouraged to support and cooperate with one another.  I also encourage the children to ask for and to accept help from their peers.

My goal is to produce life-long learners and problem solvers who have the necessary social skills to be successful, contributing members of society.  The greatest gift I believe I can give my students is to teach them to be problem-solvers who love learning.

Expectations:

Third grade students are expected to read for a minimum of 15 minutes every night.  Homework Assignment sheets are to be signed by you daily. Third-graders who reach their six-week's reading goals will have an AR party. In order to count toward their reading goals, the books they read and test on must be on their AR levels.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

My conference period is from 9:45 to 10:30.  You can e-mail me at dritch@hpisd.net or reach me by phone at 335-1334 ext. 268.
