Welcome to the library.....
The Middle and High School Library at Highland Park is one of the busiest places in our school. Students, teachers, staff members, and parents regularly utilize the library’s services and facilities for a wide variety of activities. Many meetings and other activities are held in the library throughout the year, as well as the conventional activities of research, study, and pleasure reading.
There are approximately 10,000 holdings in the MS/HS library. The collection includes reference materials, periodicals, fiction and non-fiction books, biographies, career books, books in Spanish, and atlases. In addition to the general collection that is available to everyone, our library has an extensive collection of instructional videos available to the teaching staff, as well as a selection of professional books and magazines.
In addition to the extensive collection of print materials, our students have access to a world of information at their fingertips through both the GaleNet online database and Encyclopedia Britannica School Edition On-Line. Each of these subscription services are available to the students both at school and at home, if they have internet access available.
The library also has two computers dedicated to the on-line catalog. By using the on-line catalog, the students are quickly and easily able to find the materials they need from the library’s collection.
Another important function of the school library is cataloging and inventorying student textbooks. Required textbooks are checked out to individual students through the library’s circulation system.

The GaleNet on-line database is a valuable instructional aide, and it is available as a free service to students and staff members of Highland Park ISD, through a subscription purchased by the district. The service includes several specialized databases and gives students and staff access to over 2000 periodicals, 300 newspapers, and approximately 2500 reference materials.
Encyclopedia Britannica School Edition On-Line:

Encyclopedia Britannica School Edition On-Line gives students and staff access to full text of three encyclopedias—Britannica Elementary, Compton’s Encyclopedia, and Encyclopedia Britannica. In addition the site has a dictionary and thesaurus service and active links to images and video clips on related topics.
