6th Grade Parents

September 07, 2006

Dear 6th Grade Parents,

Highland Park Independent School District has been working toward the creation of a technology vision to enhance learning.  You are invited to our 6th Grade parent meeting on September 13, 2006 @ 6:00 p.m. where we will provide you with an overview of our initiative and specifics on how your child can participate.

Our vision is to create “Anytime, Anywhere Learning” where students, parents, educators and the entire community have access to technology and are connected to one another. One way students may obtain increased access is through our new, optional laptop program.  Students will be able to participate in the introduction of laptop computers for daily use.  The purpose of the program is to develop a comprehensive range of teaching and learning strategies that will significantly enhance the learning environment.  Students will have the freedom to pursue individual learning paths while at the same time working in a collaborative environment.  We will focus on improving many facets of their education, including enhancing their critical thinking skills and developing their real-world skills.

The details of this opportunity will be explained during our upcoming parent meeting-including the educational philosophy and logistics such as security, insurance, financing and computers.  The purpose of the upcoming parent meeting is to provide you with an opportunity to learn about our overall initiative and to explain details about the program.

Our meeting will be held in the Auditorium.  This is a mandatory meeting if your child is to receive a laptop.

Thank you,

Shelley Collins

Secondary Principal
