All six students traveled to Austin this past weekend to compete with the finest high school instrumental soloists in the state of Texas!
All of them represented HP and themselves on the highest level and brought home the following UIL State medals!

The HP High School Band program kicks off each year with Summer Band! Summer Band is when new members learn to march, new student leaders assume their roles and our team takes the field for the first time learning our competitive field show!
Marching Band is a UIL varsity group and Summer Band is required for varsity status.
Our first night on July 23rd is for all 9th graders, percussionists, color guard and anyone who is new to marching band only. July 27th on is for EVERYONE.

Congratulations to both HP High School & HP 7/8 Middle School Bands for their performances at the Greater Southwest Music Festival!!
HP High School Band received the rating of "O" for Outstanding! 🏆 (1st time in HP history)
HP 7/8 Middle School Band received a 1st Division rating comprised of straight 1's. 🥇

40 members of the Highland Park High School Hornet Band traveled to Branson, MO last weekend to compete in the nationwide Music in the Parks completion. HP finished 2nd out of the six high school bands in their division!! In addition to their competitive musical activities, the Hornet Band enjoyed a long weekend packed with all the fun Branson has to offer, celebrating a full year of hard work and dedication to their art! 🎢🚢🐎🏎️ Congratulations on representing HP, Amarillo, and Texas so well!

Congratulations to HP Senior Rodney Ingersoll for winning a tenor saxophone position in this year's TMEA All-Region Jazz Band!!! (only 4 tenor saxophones are selected from the entire panhandle) Rodney was one of only five students selected from a 1A thru 3A high school and represented Highland Park on the highest level! Congrats, Rodney!! 👏👏👏





8th Grade Parent Meeting

This morning, HPISD had to honor to host the United States Air Force, Band of the West wind quintet. In addition to hearing these world class musicians perform, HPHS and HPMS students learned about musical and non-musical careers in the USAF! Your HPHS Hornet Band had an outstanding day at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest!!
6 judges, 4 pieces of music, and 2 different disciplines that provide bands the opportunity to prove both artistry and musical competency as defined by UIL standards.
HP came home with not only a clean sweep of 1’s from the six judges, but also a UIL Sweepstakes trophy to confirm that Highland Park Band is Division 1 in all three disciplines! (Marching Band/Concert Band/Sight Reading)

Juniors James Newberry and Kardin Nguyen finished in the very top of their sections and are advancing to the AREA round of the Texas All State Band selection process!
Kardin Nguyen distinguished himself as the only HP student to win a seat in the 4A-1A Symphonic Band!
